Eastwoods is suitably placed on the East Coast Road that is now known as the Entertainment Highway of Chennai. The road is home to a variety of establishments ranging from amusements parks, nature reserves to heritage centres - tourist haven indeed.

Within half an hour driving distance are various spots well worth a visit.

MGM Dizzee World and VGP Universal Kingdom are both amusement parks than cater to both the young and young at heart.

DakshinaChitra is a South Indian heritage museum that showcases the arts, crafts and architecture of the four southern states of India in a unique manner.

Crocodile Park: This is a nature reserve housing nearly 7000 inmates that represent various species of crocodiles and alligators of the world. A snake farm is also present and the venom extraction demonstrations are a big hit with visitors.

Mammallapuram: Is a unique heritage village on the seashore that was once the port of the Pallava Kingdom. It houses among many ancient architectural splendours, the Shore Temple which is one of the oldest temples in South India (8th Century AD). One can interact with the stone carvers of the region who can make custom made designs on request.
Muttukadu Boat House: This is fine picnic spot offering a variety of boat rides in the backwaters. Splendid view of the sea is main draw here.

Other popular day trips can be taken to the following destinations:-

Pondicherry: is a quaint union territory of India that was once a French colony. It still retains a flavour of the French connection and has boulevards, heritage buildings and the sprawling premises of Sri Aurobindo Ashram that attracts visitors from all over the world. The hand paper making industry has flourished in this town and visiting the manufacturing units could be very interesting.

 

Kanchipuram: It is known as the city of a thousand temples and is also considered as one of the seven sacred cities of India. However it is also famous for hand-woven silk fabrics and traditional sarees. The weavers here use the highest quality silk and pure gold thread to weave iridescent wonders in hues that are ethnic and resplendent. Visit the temples/ weavers and fill your holiday bags with traditional silk.

Thirupathi: is located at the foothills of Tirumala and Tirumala is the abode of Lord Venkateshwara. It is the most visited temple of the world and also the richest. The Tirumala hills are the world's second oldest rock mountains. It is a pilgrim centre with many added attractions as well.

Last but not the least, Chennai. A trip to Chennai, the South Indian capital of culture and tradition coexisting with the modern and contemporary is sure to thrill any tourist.
